What is UFE? - ResultsThe procedure is technically successful-that is, both uterine arteries are embolized- in >98% of cases. Abnormal bleeding is controlled in 85-90%, with dramatic improvement by the second period after the procedure. Bulk related symptoms are controlled in 80-90%, over the first 6-8 weeks. Average uterine volume is reduced by ~50%, with individual fibroid shrinkage of 40-70%. High level (~85%) of patient satisfaction with the procedure with significant improvement in quality of life measures. Recurrence of fibroids has been noted in a small % of patients, not from regrowth of infarcted (dead) fibroids, but from fibroids that start growing after the procedure.
