Our Process: Step 1 - Initial Consultation

The purpose of the initial consultation is to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for UFE and to answer any questions you have about the procedure.

The following information from your gynecologist is needed for review and should be faxed or mailed to the Center prior to the consultation:

  • Thorough history and physical exam by your gynecologist.
  • Results of any imaging studies including pelvic ultrasound, hysterosonogram, and MRI.
  • Reports of any gynecologic surgeries including myomectomy, hysteroscopy, D&C, endometrial biopsy, and laparoscopy.
  • Results of blood tests and Pap Smear.

To help you more efficiently move through the process we have recently started obtaining the MRI before the initial consultation, sometimes the same morning. In this way the consultation can be tailored to your particular situation and you can know by the end of the consultation if you are a candidate for UFE. If so, the UFE procedure can scheduled and Step 3: Insurance Pre-Authorization can be initiated, all in the same day as the consultation! This process formerly took several weeks to accomplish.

If an MRI was not obtained prior to the consultation, and if you are felt to likely be an appropriate candidate for UFE, the next step is Step 2: Pre-Procedure Testing.
